Boston Holiday Party – A BostonTweetUp Review

What it’s all about…

Inspired Futures raises money and awareness for local charities focused on “building a more inspiring future for youth” through social events.

What happened…

Following with their success as an organization, which puts on social events to raise funds for non-profit foundations, Inspired Futures hosted the Boston Holiday Party Challenge at Red Sky Restaurant & Lounge in Boston, Massachusetts. DJs from Heaton Productions enlivened the scene with a blend of holiday party and Top 40 songs.  The DJs did a fantastic job of playing upbeat music but keeping the volume at a level that still allowed the guests to converse with one another, not always an easy combination to achieve. Red Sky was decorated tastefully in festive seasonal decor which created a very warm atmosphere. There was a great turnout for the event of about 50 people, the perfect number for the venue. The crowd was lively and in the holiday spirit of connecting and sharing with everyone, a fun way to meet and network with new people.

Memorable Moments…

With so many holiday parties around Boston, Inspired Futures added a different element to the mix with prizes ranging from $50 to $250 worth awarded to attendees with the most holiday spirit. Mixed in among the holiday spirit attire was the oldie but a goodie, ugly sweater contest. Although there weren’t many ugly sweaters to choose from, the quality of heinous sweaters that entered made it a tough decision to determine who the ultimate winner was. One has to wonder is being dubbed the most unfortunate dressed truly winning? For any December birthday babies it was your lucky night, Inspired Futures was giving away free birthday shots. This was the best kept secret of the night.

Opportunities…

I would have liked to see a greater employment of social media to help leverage the event. Making the event more visible on twitter and using a hashtag would have been a great way to promote the event and attract a wider range of attendees. Had the word spread about this event I feel people would have been inspired by Inspired Future’s cause and happy to donate. For future events it would be helpful for the attendees and organizers to have name tags.

More Info…

Red Sky lends itself well to multiple events taking place at the same time. During the Inspired Futures Holiday party there was an office party taking place in the back room. Both events coexisted well together and having two parties going on simultaneously gave the effect that Red Sky was the it place to be on a Thursday evening.

KelseySchachter: If you were to Google me you'd find out I am a rower, cape codder, blogger, tweeter, facebooker, and ice skater, pretty standard information. What you might not realize is I love all things low tech, my day planner is my life. This may seem contradictory to my passion for social media but I enjoy taking these online connections and making them happen in real time events. I'm all about the details, it's the little things like hand written thank you notes that makes things special. And because I'm a pretty random person I'll throw it out there that I'm really into food whether it be cooking or just watching the food network.
